Legalization of Weed in Canada

Legalization of Weed in Canada

In Canada this is a discussion that many citizens as well as government officials have all the time. While medical marijuana is legal, at this point in time the law is against this drug that comes from plants.

I will go over some of the main points in the discussion that may lead to the legalization of weed in Canada and what the probability of this happening truLegalization of Weed in Canadaly is.

At this point in time the legal status of pot is under dispute.

If we look at the last poll completed regarding the legalization of weed in Canada the results were FOR legalization, 53% in favor. Despite the public position and this democracy that we live in the government that is currently in power, the Harperists are trying to pass a law that would create worse circumstances and penalties for drug crimes. While this may sound fine, the main target are actually weed users and distributors.

Personally, I feel that mandates should be focused on more important issues, but it is no surprise that the current regime, due to it’s conservative nature is against the legalization of weed in Canada.

I am really hoping that in the current election that the Liberals are put in power. While this is not the only reason, I do believe that the legalization of marijuana in Canada will not pose a an issue and will actually empty the court rooms for more important issues.

Points in Favor of Legalization of Weed in Canada

There are many people that are in favor of this cause as I mentioned before in the most recent poll.

  • Industry – Estimates done by experts in British Columbia pin the street value of the marijuana business at $24 billion dollars a year. If the government was in control of this it would certainly have a positive economic impact.
  • Tourism – the legalization of weed in Canada would also lead to our major centers being much stronger tourist attractions.

There are quite a few other reasons why I believe that legalization of weed in Canada should be a priority but I will address them at a later time. Feel free to comment and add your opinions and any updates you may have on this debate.

  1. I strongly agree, the legalization would create a much larger budget for the Canadian economy and with tourism factored in i believe Canada could come out of it with a ridiculous amount of money. Just think of what improvements could be made with that kind of money.

  2. I certainly believe so, does anyone else care to comment?

    • I believe that marijuana should be legalized in Canada because I have had my fair share of stoner days and to notice that people around me are happy not violent and just plain old relaxed ! not to mention (booze) what does that do get people angry / conflict and not make good decisions I believe that pot should be allowed people are much better off no stress and plain calm LEGALIZE WEED!!!!!!!!!!!plz

  3. not only that, you always hear about dealers getting busted, fined and jailed just for possesion, i think its pretty stupid how we’re spending all our money, space, and time enforcing something that doesn’t even come close to the caliber of other crimes

    • Ya, this is also really true, the courts are full in Ontario. It takes years to actually go to court for the most basic infractions. Another point why they should legalize weed.

  4. i belive it would be great for canadas economy, and why waste time in court for pot when there is more important issues waiting

    • Out of all of your peers what percentage has smoked weed?

I would say out of my peers over 90% and many of these people are very successful. The stigmas around marijuana smoking aren’t warranted.

  5. Hey man who is the author of this website doing a research paper on the legalization of the good shit,
